Music: Composing and Publishing

Q:: Do you play any live events, or do you just publish for the internet?

Currently I'm publishing for the internet. Composing and recording is more satisfying to me than performing, though people have commented that they enjoyed past performances that I've done in Boston, Taiwan and Hawaii.

Q:: Steven, you've been getting a lot of attention on mp3.com. What is that all about?

Well, with all multi media content on the internet, including audio, it all comes down to quality. I believe that the quality of my music, much of which is freely downloadable, has been high enough to gain repeat visitors and new visitors from all over the world, who are basically experiencing continuous enjoyment of my music.

Q:: Many piano music lovers are saying that your music is similar to George Winston. Do you agree with that?

Definitely. And I take that as a great compliment. I've been playing piano since I was eight and at one point along the way, I identified so much with George Winston's style that I learned several of his compositions by ear. His style especially influenced my first album True Reflections which was recorded and engineered by David Ackerman. All of my albums have completely original works by me and usually experienced as new and refreshing, even by George Winston fans.

Q:: Do you have any other influences.

Yes, many, but I think one of the most significant influences is STING. In my opinion he draws his music from a special creative energy current that's hard to describe, but I identify with that energy current and draw from it too.

Q:: Are all your CDs piano music?

No, I have two CDs of piano music so far and a new CD that is all multitrack including synthesizers. The title of that CD is Matrix 9 and people can preview it at StevenCravis.com. This CD keeps on growing as I continue to add tracks to it, which is part of why people are returning. I like to continually add new content to my mp3.com page. I even have added a fourth CD to my website, which is a compilation of some tracks from each of the first 3 CDs.

Q:: So, how does someone new find your music, including free CD quality previews of your tracks?

Just click on mp3.com/StevenCravis if you have mp3 downloading software already. If you do not know how to download mp3 music, first go to mp3.com and click on the software links (make sure to choose Windows or Mac, etc…) and you will find very good free mp3 software. I recommend MusicMatch although all the free software at mp3.com is very good. Download the software, install it, and then come back to mp3.com/StevenCravis to enjoy an abundance of original music.

Q:: What's the greatest thing your fans have done, or can do for you?

Spread the word about StevenCravis.com to their friends and family as much as possible. The great part about the internet for everyone is that it is interactive. I like to interact with my fans as much as possible. I even received an email from someone who had always wanted to play piano, and after hearing my music, was inspired to buy a piano and start taking lessons. All communication is meaningful to me.

Q:: How would you charge to design a score for someone's web site? Fixed rate or incremental Licensing?

I would charge a fixed rate. However, If incremental licensing is preferred by the client, this can be negotiated. I like to make licensing as simple as possible. See more information at:
